We Believe in the Manifestation of the Holy Spirit

We believe in receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit just like the Apostles and disciples did. Acts 2: 1-4 (NIV) “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

We believe that all the gifts of the Spirit are still in the church. We know when Christ brings home the church we won’t need these special gifts. Many say the gifts ended when the Bible was finished. They use 1 Corinthians 13:10 (NKJV) “But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.” We know through personal experience and church history that it isn’t true. All through the Book of Acts they spoke in tongues when they received the Holy Spirit. Here we see the gentiles receive the Holy Spirit just like the Jews did on the day of Pentecost. Acts 10:44-48 (NKJV) “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. Notice here when the gentile received the Holy Spirit there was no interpretation of tongues.

Many have confused speaking in tongues with tongues and interpretation. They try to say tongues were a gift always associated with interpretation. If one looks closely at Scripture you see this isn’t true. 1 Corinthians 14:14-19 (NKJV) 14 “ For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue. Paul’s reference to speaking in tongues more than you all” was about his prayer life not speaking in the church.

God is still working in his church through the power of his Spirit ordained by His Word: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (NKJV) “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Table of the Lord believes in the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the leading of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit in our time. We believe the gifts of the Spirit are with us until the church is caught away. When he calls us home the perfect glorified one brings us into perfection until then we need everything we can get to fight the devil, flesh and fallen world.
